March 27, 2026 As part of the Animation 10x10 program, the lecture “From Original Work to Animation: Creating a Visual Language for Adaptation” was successfully held on March 27 at the Animation Creators Base. The event featured Tzu-Ting Yang (Sponge), director of Big Cat Studio, who shared his experience adapting the Taiwanese original IP The Brave Animation Series from its source material into an animated production.

The lecture was open free of charge to teams participating in the Animation 10x10 program, while also welcoming members of the public, animation professionals, and fans of the series. The event provided a valuable opportunity for creators, industry practitioners, and audiences to engage in meaningful discussions surrounding original IP development and animation production. Beyond knowledge sharing, the gathering also served as an offline promotional platform that increased awareness and public engagement with Taiwanese original animation properties.

The session focused on the practical process of adapting original content into animation. Drawing directly from the production materials of Seasons One and Two of The Brave Animation Series, Director Yang guided participants through the transformation of comic storytelling into animated visual language. Key topics included character performance design, narrative pacing, storyboarding approaches, and the development of a cohesive visual style that supports animated storytelling.

Through detailed case studies and production examples, attendees gained insight into the creative decision-making process behind animation adaptation. The lecture offered a rare behind-the-scenes perspective on how source material is reinterpreted and refined to meet the demands of a different medium while preserving the essence of the original work.

Audience participation was particularly enthusiastic, with attendees actively engaging in discussions and raising questions about creative workflows, adaptation strategies, and production challenges. For Animation 10x10 creators, the opportunity to interact directly with an experienced industry professional provides valuable practical knowledge and constructive feedback that can support future project development.

The event successfully achieved its objectives of facilitating professional knowledge exchange, strengthening connections between emerging creators and industry practitioners, and promoting Taiwanese original IP through public engagement. By encouraging dialogue around adaptation and storytelling, the lecture contributed to the continued growth of Taiwan’s animation industry and helped foster new possibilities for future cross-media content development.

Overall, the event successfully achieved its goal of sharing creative experience while enhancing participants’ understanding of story development and project execution. By opening participation to a broader audience, the lecture further strengthened connections between creators and industry professionals. It also contributed to cultivating storytelling capabilities among emerging animation talents and reinforcing the foundation for original content development in Taiwan.
